FedEx Small Business Grant Contest 2018

www.fedex.com/grantcontest registration: FedEx ran a Small Business Grant Contest that awarded small businesses grant of up to $25,000 and FedEx Office print and business services with grant of up to $7,500. The contest was made open for entry from February 20, 2018 to March 28, 2018. 10 winners were announced on April 24, 2018. One grand prize, one silver prize and eight bronze prizes of $25,000, $15,000 and $7,500 were awarded to small businesses and $7,500, $5000 and $1,000 to FedEx Office print and business services respectively.


How entries were made


Small businesses which were operating for at least six weeks at the time of contest and having less than 100 employees were made eligible to enter the contest; for-profit businesses in good condition selling products or services were considered. No non-profit businesses were eligible for the contest.

To enter the contest, small businesses were supposed to create contest profile at www.fedex.com/grantcontest providing business name, contact name, address, website of the business, elevator pitch describing their business, product or services offered by the company and upload images that represented their business the best. They also had to tell about their vision and mission of the business. They could also upload 90-second video representing their business. Moreover, participating businesses were also required to answer few brief questions to help FedEx and voters know them better. Contest profile could be shared through social media or sent link through email.

Participants were provided a ‘voting badge’ about their participations which they could place on their website; fans could be directed via the badge. 

Voting was considered to shortlist entrants. Anyone with valid email id could vote for his favourite business at www.fedex.com/grantcontest ; voters had to follow rules on how many times they can vote for.

How winners were Selected


Top 100 Finalists were selected from 700 entrants who had received highest number of votes. The names were announced on 12th April. A FedEx selection committee choose finalists considering how social presence was made to develop brand voice, impact of website and ease of navigation, innovative approach, sustainability, how the brand aligned with FedEx brand, community involvement, review of social media, how the small business owner was prepared to mentor other businesses etc.

The selected finalists were notified through email and requested to prepare and send a video based on the questions asked. Winners were decided judging response given by the small businesses; how compelling and engaging essay answers they provided.

Grand prize was awarded to Rumi Spice, Chicago, IL, Silver prize to Drop Water Menlo Park, CA and Bronze prize winners were Booze Dogs, ZZZ Bears, Buckle me Baby Coats, Locker Life Style, Blended Design, Dauntless Wine Company, Back of the Yards Coffee Co. and “Alumni Choice” Award, Fiddler Shop. The grant would help them develop their business better.

There were over 7,800 entries and over 665,000 had voted.
